UNIT VECTORS

1. Vector of MAGNITUDE OF 1 unit is known as UNIT VECTOR

2. Example :

i) vector a is unit vector, therefore the magnitude of a is 1 unit

ii) The magnitude of b is 1 unit , so b = Unit Vector

UNIT VECTOR i and j

i = unit vector

= the magnitude is 1 unit
= in the direction of the x-axis ( parallel to x-axis)

j???

j = unit vector

= the magnitude of j is 1 unit

= in the direction of the y-axis(parallel to y-axis)
